Thamnocalamus crassinodus 'Kew Beauty'
This is one of the most beautiful of all bamboos; it has a delicate, graceful habit with arching plumes of tiny leaves, the shoots are covered in sheaths that have red and purple hairs on them, these drop off as the shoots mature to reveal culms with a grey, powdery bloom on them over a jade green coloured stem -wow.
These plants need some protection from strong sun while they are young and look at their best in woodland shade in general. It is a generally tight clump forming bamboo with a mature height of about 4m tall.
