Bomarea sp.
The identity of this species is not certain. It is part of the genus Bomarea from Mexico and has been growing here happily unprotected in the low branches of a Mexican pine - Pinus Montezumae for 7 or 8 years. It grows loosely twining stems about 3m long and produces several clusters of these exquisite flowers every year, so it is not a rampant or floriferous plant, but it more than makes up for this with the rare beauty of its blooms. Best planted where it can be seen close up and against a suitably dark backdrop - like the pine foliage, to show up the flowers. Each tubular flower in the cluster is 5 or 6cm long.
